Yes! Thank you. If you have a list of families with their phone number, location, housing situation, and method of transportation to get there, do you think you would be able to find people who would be willing to move? More importantly, would you be able to manage a group of volunteers who would be doing that job? (we can advertise and get you the manpower) You would probably need a lot of cell phone minutes (we can try to ask for donations too). Do you think that is feasible? What do you think you would need?
In the meantime, I will start compiling a list of names and phone numbers and see where we go from there.

I am heading down from Michigan to the outline areas of Alabama & Mississippi where there seems to be no help arriving thus far. I have donated supplies that I will be bringing down { clothes, blankets, food, water ect. } but could still use some more donations. I have a 3500 Chevy truck along with a trailer I will be pulling. If you have donations to offer please let me know. I can not of course go way off my path to get them, but if your willing to meet me with them that would be great. Also any money donations is also needed still. I will be keeping all receipts to be able to prove where all money was used. I know so many are scared to give to someone they dont know, but this is why I am doing this. There are lots of donations going to Red Cross and this is great dont get me wrong, but I really want to see by me handing this out all of what I am taking down goes to some of the areas that have not seen any Red Cross workers and are in dieing need. I also need one person who will donate there time to help me cordinate things while I am down there. By this I mean if I can have someone calling around for me to get them housing or in touch with their loved ones ect. as i will not have a computer down there only my cell phone. I can be reached my email at crayolakidz@msn.com or by phone at 231-932-9865 Thanks for any help you can offer, Desiree

Hi Pebbles,
If you could give us an idea of what kind of volunteerism you could provide, that would be helpful.
What resources or skills do you have?
I'm going to open a thread for specific requests for assistance so people like you can scan through it, and hopefully find something you can help out with.
I could use some help moving threads, and getting this site organized today.
Thanks for your offer!

Hi Desiree,
I'm going to move your post to a thread where we can coordinate those who have a plan of action with those who are wanting to help, so we can start getting people paired off and working together.
Hopefully you'll be hearing from people who can help.
Many thanks!

Our family has discussed two things. First, we would gladly take the responsibility to help a family of three or four from the Katrina affected region to start over here in Oregon. This includes transport to Oregon, housing, food and clothes, plus assistance in finding jobs or schooling.
Second, if we were to go the region to bring someone to Oregon we could likley take others to their families along the way because we have a motorhome. It might start out crowded for the first day, but it would quickly work out.

I have actually found a list of places that are activly looking for volunteers, many looking for those trained in the medical field, either way, if you want to volunteer this is the best list of places i've found thus far. http://neworleans.craigslist.org/vol/95508929.html

Mike, I have left a message with you at your home number. I have three friends, sisters, in a shelter SOMEWHERE in Gonzales, Louisiana. They may be willing to relocate. I am in Grants Pass, Oregon. Your offer is a very generous one and I just thought I'd talk to you about it. If not my friends, then certainly someone... you can help.
I want my friend with me if she can but I live alone, and although I would house all three of the sisters, I can't support them. I am disabled.
Just posting here to say we're gonna get Mike hooked up with some Katrina victims ;) Trying to get through on the numbers I have; one line is busy, other two I have left messages at so will know more later.
:D
