My complaint is that people that work for me have no job ethics, no integrity; no need to want to do a good job. They are mostly interested in how many hours they can work=how much $$ they will pull in. As a supervisor type of person, I find that I am constantly annoyed by that mentality. I;'m not saying that people have to have a Puritan work ethic, or anything like that, but people should have a reasonable WANT to do a decent job.

On the flip, my complaint as a common employee is that higher managaement (mostly in my prior jobs) often function with no human attributes. People are numbers. people are profits, paperwork has to be fudged up tp make things look better than they actually are....common decency is chucked out the window.

Some are, but most are overpaid--getting paid to do nothing, provide substandard service, etc...

Ahhh....here we have the benefit of both perspectives, always a good thing!

When I read the "Bully Bosses" comments in the first post, I was thinking that it's a matter of being able to accurately identify a "bully boss" as opposed to one who simply wants the job done efficiently and well. Some people don't know the difference.

Like you, SpareOom, I've been on both sides of the equation. I've been a boss, and been accused of being a bully. I've also had bully bosses, and I've also falsely accused bosses of being bullies in my younger days.

It is very true that not a lot of people have a good work ethic these days, so the temptation can be to blame the boss, accuse them of being a bully, etc, rather than to just take a hard look at our own job performance.

I think it all comes down to being willing and able to make accurate evaluations, especially if that means accurately evaluating ourselves first and foremost.

It's my experience that when we can do that, we become both good employees, and capable of accurately evaluating and handling bully bosses.

There is a difference between a demanding boss and a bully boss. Demanding bosses are good for business, IMO.

Nico,

Yes, I believe you are very right in the demanding boss. I have had very demanding bosses and they get the job done. A demanding boss lets you know what is expected and checks to make sure the task is done to standard. I have had demanding bosses and I enjoyed working with them. I always knew what was expected of me.
