I have come to learn, during this first month among animal rescue groups, that there are alot of them. Some large, some small, some good and some not so good. Like any person or organization since the early hours of Katrina, it is hard to determine who is "Friend or Foe?"
I found myself asking that question as I watched the NO people standing on their roofs, as I watched FEMA's Michael Brown & his boss on TV, as I watched the government officials lips move on tv, Red Cross, etc, etc.
"Friend or Foe?"...Show your true colors because I am watching. Well, I was very surprized to have my experiences in the animal control/rescue world to be bittersweet. I had the most problems w/ "Official" animal control people. ?? I have since learned that even in normal times there is alot of passionate animal people/groups and there is alot of, let's say, disagreements. So you can imagine how exciting, controversial and conflicting the times are during a huge disaster(s).
There are alot of groups and initials flying around and they are not connected as one would think. Example, LA-SPCA is NOT part of SPCA, There is the National AND American Humane Society, plus all the local humane societies. Then there is the No-Kill vs Kil Shelters.
The list I am starting is formed by much I have heard or seen, I can not varify all but I can form an educated guess.
