Ever notice that you can call information 5 times and ask for the same number and 4 times out of 5 you will get a dfferent number?, what is wrong with these people? Last week I needed to do a background check on a customer, so I called info. and asked for the number to Child Services for the state of New York, the first number I was given was to a Jewish center for children, the second number I was given was to a state mental hospital, the third number was to a bank, I finally gave up and looked it up on the internet.

And to think I am being charged every time I call infomation. I say "GIVE ME A BREAK".

I called information one time in my life, and I swore I never would again. Besides hardly speaking English, the person did not seem to understand that I was looking for a business rather than an actual person. Funny, since the name I was asking after was Lucas Plumbing

Hmmm...I've never had that problem. That's too bad that you have. I must just call on the right days or something. LOL

It does worry me when I have to spell the person/company's name, repeatedly, for the operator....

I have had this happen or when they tell you that the number isn't listed but you know that it is cause you called the day before to get the number and forgot to write it down. I try not to call Information anymore. I try to get online to find the number through the directorys that the phone companies offer online. It seems much easier and takes less time.

I used to work for 411.

Me-Thank you for calling. What city please?
Them-I need a number
Me-Alright. What city please.
Them-umm New York
Me-business or residence?
Them-what?
Me-Is it a business or residence?
Them-I just need a number.
Me-yes, sir I need to know if the number you are calling for is for a business or if it is a residence, someone's home.
Them-its my freind, Frank
Me-And Frank's last name please?
Them-That is the last name
Me-alright. And the first name
Them-Joe or Joeseph or maybe it is under Cindy
Me-what is the street address.
Them-I don't know! I just want the phone number!
Me-I have 13 listings for a Joe Frank, 3 for Joseph Frank and 1 for Cindy frank in New York, New York.
Them-just give me every listing.
Me-I am sorry sir, I am only allowed to give one listing. Maybe you have his address somewhere and can call back?
Them-I don't want to call back.
Me- If I mention a few street names will that jog your memory?
Them-He doesn't live in New York. He lives in Radmont. He is probably the only one in the whole town.

Me-Thank you for calling. What city please?
Them- Some dumb idiot just hung up on me because she coudln't find the number I need!
Me-I am sorry Sir. I will be glad to help. What city please?
Them-Schenectody
Me-can you spell that for me please?
Them-I dont know how to spell it! You work here! You should know how to spell it! Don't you know how to spell the names of the cities you look up?!
Me-Not all of them. Every state has many cities and I do not know all of them. I just want to make sure I get the right city for you.
Them-Look the name is John Johnson and he lives in schenectody and I need his number. Quit giving me a hard time and do your job!

You get the picture. Dont judge too harshly. The job is awful. People are rude. They have no control over how things are listed. It is not their fault that a number is unlisted or if it is a bad connection or for some other reason they cannot undestand you. And, the pay sucks.

I can imagine people being rude. I work in a children and family mental health facility and when people call in to make an appointment I hear how rude some of the patients are with our front office staff. I have to get on to the front office staff becuase I hear them raising their voices and getting rude back. I keep telling them that they have to be teh better person.

It's been ages since I called Information. I'm sure it was before 411. It was mostly automated but the few live people I got were always good. Now I just never think of looking any place but online.
