So,
what kind of skills should one have to make a great moderator (mod)?

Can someone learn on the job?

How much time a week to give?

Is it hard to do?

How much does it cost?

Thanks

Thank you for your time and any ideas!

I really don't know what makes a good moderator. I have never done it before. BUt< I know I can learn on the job (OJT).

I'll Guess:

*Basic typing skills
*Responsible
*Team Player?
*Honest
*Ability to do some research
*Flexible hours
*Relaxed work wardrobe--like slippers & pj's :)
*Good speller or know hos to use spell check

What else?

Anyone?

Hi Sparkie,

Yes, your list is right on. Being a team player is very important as you know we are a group that is in constant communication with the running of the board and the projects we have going.

Honest: Yes, we ask opinions of our mods and expect honest answers for feedback. This keep the group and board running its most efficient.

Research: This is a skill we use all the time in order to move forward on projects and to help anybody in need. People we work with do not always have the internet access and call us for answers and help.

Flexible: Do to the fact we can volunteer our time whenever we want and alot of the research can be done at anytime. As well as other tasks such as crossposting. Any amount of time given by a volunteer is an enormous help!

Wardrobe: Yes, slippers and PJ's welcome! Not all of us can climb out of the bed with our bon-bons there Sparkie.

Hard to do? : I didn't think so. This is such a nice group that when I did have a question it was answered right away and if I still didn't understand I knew I could pick up the phone and get help.

I hope this has answered your questions. If not, please feel free to ask away!

And as far as being a good speller...just open a word process. and double check. I do it all the time when I can't think of something, or if I am talking on the phone and posting incoming info. :chatter:

I need to learn how to edit a thread title. I have a typo in: EDNAH IPDATE (Update)

I was afraid that I might accidently prune a forum again. OOps!

Greetings,

I think that everyone ought to be polite. The moderators should make sure that people speak in a dignified manner. On so many bulletin boards people behave in such a rude manner. There is no need for that. Why, in my day nobody talked that way except for sailors.

We should all just get along, even if we disagree. There are ways to let people know of your disapproval without using that awful gutter talk.

Have a blessed day, Miss Priss

I have to agree with you there, Miss Priss. I admit, I curse quite a bit but I generally get along with all folks. And if I don't? I ignore them and walk the other way. Because that's what mature folks do.
