2 volunteer rescuers from Tennessee, who are
staying at our stagging site in Tylertown, Ms., came upon a dog fight in
progress in the middle of Bourbon Street, last Saturday at 5:00 p.m. Lisa
and Tammy saw the owner of 2 scarred up pit bulls unleash them and allowed them
to fight for several minutes in the middle of the street. A small crowd
formed to watch the fight; 2 specators in the crowd were uniform NOPD officers,
who laughed as the dogs began to maul one another. The fight lasted
several minutes.

Realizing what was taking place, the rescuers moved
toward the fighting dogs, in order to separate them. Just then, the owner
pulled the dogs apart and started to walk away. The 2 uniform officers
continued to laugh and began walking away in a different direction. No
action was obviously taken against this perpetrator, and the dogs walked away,
led by their suspected owner.

The 2 rescuers filled out a signed report,
which was turned in to Lonnie Swain, Assistant Chief of the Public Integrity
Division of the New Orleans Police Dept. The women were able to give a
partial description of the 2 officers in their report. The women will also
be filing an oral report with a detective from the same bureau.
