They need volunteers at the Astrodome in Houston, according to this UT site
http://www.uthouston.edu/uthelps/help.html
Also confirmed by Fox News.
From NOLA.com message #376 in volunteers forum: contact United Way to sign up.
If anyone know exactly where volunteers should go, please post here.
United Way is also taking donated goods at the Astrodome.
I have been in touch < via phone with the Medical Staffers> with the Astrodome and Reliant Arena. They do need help. What is frustrating is this: I am a nurse and have been trying to get down there for days. Nowhere to Stay !!! it is very difficult to find any help in finding lodgings. I live in New England and am willing and able, but cannot find assitance to get a place to stay. Hotels etc are full. Any help would be appreciated

I am a Red Cross Certified Adult, Child and Infant First Aid and CPR Instructor. I want to help out NOW while there is such a tremendous need. But, the local Hawaii Chapter isn't moving fast enough (in my opinion). I can get myself to the area, but don't know where I would stay or where I could best put my skills to use. Any suggestions?

hurricanehousing.org is not providing any services beyond maintaining a database of available housing.
They are directing people back to the Red Cross and major support organizations which we know are not currently fielding individual volunteer requests like this very well.
Please support our efforts to get grassroots support resources catalogued, reviewed, and in a comprehensive listing that can be cross posted.
The bureacracies are handling the big picture, groups like ours have to get organized on the finer points. That's all there is to it.
These first responder groups are not even contactable for the most part.
