This is an article about a device that one can use to change traffic lights.

It really makes me wonder about the future of an orderly society maintained by respect for the law rather than simple brute force.

It might seem an extreme response to something as seemingly minor as a traffic signal, but I dunno, I have to wonder what traffic would be like if suddenly everyone was trying to control the signals. From there I just have to wonder where technology will ultimately take us.

The article goes on to say that there is technology to subvert the traffic light changer technology, but we all know how that works!

Maybe the trick here is to pay appropriate homage to the Techno-Gods by being as savvy as we can. I do think that we're already living in a class system that is becoming increasingly defined by one's technical savvy and access.

Any thoughts?

I think it's awful there is already a technology around that people can spray on their license plate that makes it unreadable by camera so they can run through red lights and not get ticketed!

You would think that the point of a advanced society is to build or create inventions that promote health and safety having a device that can change a traffic light sounds like a good way to get into an accident.

Hi DJDizzy!

Welcome to Livewire.FM!! :toot:

Ok, this is an interesting example you give! Obscuring one's license plate for cameras could be construed as protecting ones right to not incriminate themselves. It could also be a protest against the use of camera surveillance, which is another issue that's open to debate on the basis of our constitutional freedoms, IMO.

But I have to fully agree that manipulating traffic lights is a very dangerous practice.

Traffic and motor vehicle laws are interesting, because clearly we all have willingly given up a few freedoms in order to have the privilege to drive on the public motorways.

Or....is it a privilege??

Interesting topic, actually!!

Thanks Nico glad to be here. I love the point you made about people covering their license plates so as not to incrminate themselves. I never actually thought about in those terms before.

I am kinda mixed on the idea of camera survelliance. On one hand its more likely to deter people from running red lights and causing accidents. On the other how accurate is it? And the idea of automatically receving a ticket in the mail that you can't do anything about, as opposed to one from a police officer that due process allows you to contest in court...

I definetly think driving is a privelge (on public roads anyway). People with DWI's and multiple tickets from accidents have lost the privelege through their abuse of the laws governing driving.

I highly agree that driving is a priviledge and definitely not a right. I think we have the right to apply ourselves to learn to drive based on our own recognizances but agree with DJDizzy, people with DUI's and accident histories should not be allowed on the road at all, for they are putting the rest of us responsible drivers at increased risk.

Sometimes, really smart people can take over the world. At least that's what I think would happen if ever something like those are made. People have the innate ability to break the rules, and they have devised means on how not to get caught. I feel if that would happen there is really no future for peace and order in the world. I just hope people would be more responsible for what they do because I think that is the best way of taking care of things and achieving world peace.
