I just heard on the news that oil may skyrocket to more than a hundred dollars a barrel... any thoughts about how that would affect you personally more than just strain on the wallet? Would it change travel plans, etc.?

I doubt if it would make much difference to my travel.
I live in a place where if you don't cycle, you really need a car to get round.
I don't think people's travel will change much until public transport systems are improved (at least not in England where I live).

It won't be changing my travel plans, but it will be a lot more painful on the finances to drive a thousand miles to Florida next summer.

I really feel bad for my grandmother, she owns a triple decker in Boston and she heats all 3 floors using oil. It's gonna cost her a fortune this winter.

I've been very lucky in that this house is really great with the heating
oil. Even when it's really cold, the rooms hold the heat well. (Radiant
heating) But this reminded me that within a month, that ol' oil truck
will start coming around again. Where DID the summer go??? :disbelief

While it may not necessarily change the way I drive, it does take money away from other things - such as taking a driving vacation in the first place. I find it distasteful that oil companies can make money hand over fist when all their refineries are going strong, yet they can make even more money when their systems break down and they need to close down temporarily, thereby decreasing the supply of oil. :disbelief As it is, I am stuck paying for gas at minibar prices.

Personally, it hasn't had an effect on our vacations plans, but we have drastically cut down driving around town. I always combine errands and have been doing a lot more walking.
I can't see families that are living off minimum wage jobs or government assistance will get by. They're going to need a second job just to pay for gas to get to the first job.

The prices are finally starting to go down now.... but I find it interesting
that everyone gets excited when it drops to $2.69 and just a relatively
short time ago, it was under $2.

..and how convenient that the gas prices drop even more right before the elections, hmmm?

It won’t have personally any effect on my vacation plan or whatsoever road gimmick me and my family will be conducting. But the pure thought of oil price skyrocketing is a real disturbance. But what’s new? Oil price heightening is a common scenario these days.
