so okay, I admit to being a shameless oldies junkies - I LOVE the 'worst 100 songs ever' shows. My kids learned all the words to Billy Don't Be a Hero, One Tin Soldier, Seasons in the Sun, Hot Child in the City and the Night Chicago Died before they were old enough to know that they were just.. you know... bad bad songs. How bout you? Got any shameful musical tastes?

I remember when I was little my parents were big partiers, the house was always filled with Englebert Humperdink and Tom Jones, as they got older it was Perry Como. I still have a love for that kind of music.

Well, the first song I ever memorized at the age of 6 was If You Think I Am Sexy by Rod Stewart.
I didn't even have a concept of what the lyrics meant at that time and had to live down ruthless teasing by my sister who would catch me holding a brush for a microphone and singing away with the radio.

LOL! I love that song, it's a hoot! I often break out singing it at the oddest moments. It's always good for a laugh when the timing is right!!

Naaah, don't be ashamed! I just discovered the Moldy Oldie DMX station (cable radio). Poor Franklin can't understand my fascination with some of those ooooold songs I listened to as a kid. There's some good stuff, but some real dogs too.
I'm old enough to remember the summer when Leslie Gore's "It's My Party" was the #1 hit all summer long, and we couldn't get enough of it, even after 700 million plays!
Then there were all the songs that we used to dance to, we even had choreography for some of them, so everyone knew the steps. I don't care how bad those songs are, I still start tapping when I hear them.
I think music brings up a lot of good old memories, and if it does that, it can't be bad!
I'll put that station on sometime and post some of the weird ones. It's full of them!
Oh, remember "Having My Baby"? Now that has to be one of the worst of all times.
If we ever get a music license for Livewire.FM, I'm going to host an oldies call-in show for sure!! Shall I put you at the top of the list for propective co-hosts??

OK, I'll admit to liking The Israelites by Desmond Dekker and the Aces. This was the first Raggae hit in the U.S. (1969) It's a very wierd song, but cool.
Dekker died a few weeks ago at the age of 64.
I also had a little crush on Petula Clark, whose hits included Downtown, I Know a Place and Don't Sleep in the Subway.
Interesting synchronicity: I just discovered (using Google, of course) that Petula Clark was born in Surray, England, and Desmond Dekker, who was born in Jamaica, died in Surray.

Okay, we've got to talk about Ice Ice Baby by ... ugh! Forgot his name already. (must be bad if I can't remember the performer!)
Funny story actually and it relates back to the ever so prevalent reality tv shows. Well, they had a show that featured hasbeen musicians from yester-year and brought them back to compete against each other. They had to perform their one hit that made them famous.
Yep, Ice Ice Baby made the show... and he won! I couldn't believe he would go on tv now and perform the song again. But, he remixed his own song - it was interesting.

I never thought of Billy, Don't be a Hero or One Tin Soldier as "bad songs!" LOL Shows you my taste, such as it is, in music . . .
I'm ashamed to admit it, but two of my favorite "bad" songs are Honey (Bobby Goldsboro) and Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road (Loudon Wainright III).
Chameleon, where does the jury stand on Seasons in the Son (Terry Jacks) and Convoy (Paul Brandt)?

Can't be any worse than three kids lined up imitating the Village People doing the "YMCA". Argh, I'm sooo happy my parents didn't have a video camera!

Oh, man, talk about bringing back memories!! I remember singing (singing? well, not really) Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road on the schoolbus in 8th grade. Honey is the very first song that ever made me cry - and STILL does.. I can't sing it without getting choked up. My mother worked as a bartender when I was growing up, and used to get to bring home the 45s from the jukebox when they changed them out... I wore out Pet Clark's I Know a Place (which was on the flip side of Downtown), but I didn't know she also did Don't Sleep in the Subway. I *love* that song!
We got a mighty convoy... nother one I loved. How about this one?
Little Willie Willie won't go home
but you can't push Willie round
Willie won't go
Try telling everybody but oh no
Little Willie Willie won't go home
One of the best roller-skating songs of all time, second only to Hang on, Sloopy. (there's a one-shot oldies show for you, Nico - roller-skating songs!)
And honestly - I've used Billy Don't Be a Hero to start conversations with my kids about war and protest and subtle ways of making your opinions about issues known.
Keep 'em coming! (The Macarena only qualifies if you're under 30 and don't have memories going back to the really bad songs). Hrm. Maybe we should do a golden moldies game of Name That Tune...

My sister and I used to save all the golden oldies for car trips when we would dirve our parents nuts by belting out all the tear jerkers we could think of.....Teen Angel, Last Kiss....and what't that one that starts out "Laura and Tommy were lovers....." (just googled it ....Tell Laura by Dickie Lee)
We used to love to sing the 60s songs!
When we weren't singing the tear jerkers it was songs like It's my Party and Rubber Ball.

*mumbling* Build Me Up ButterCup by the Foundations. *slinking away*
It could be worse, though, I seem to have mercifully forgotten the lyrics to Jam Up and Jelly Tight.

Hey, I liked One Tin Soldier! Now, Having My Baby, there was a bad song! I was thinking about Seasons in the Sun a few days ago... Terry Jacks. I'm not sure I ever knew what the lyrics meant or what was going on. Not sure I STILL do. :jump: NOT saying I didn't like it, I happened to like it very much but did it ever say who was dying... or why? Or am I getting mixed up? :dork:

Oh all the wonderful memories that these have brought back. I will admit (only here of course...) that my friends and I used to put on or Four Seasons records, grab the nearest candlestick and lip sinc the afternoon away...absolutely the best summer days you could imagine!

Oh, thank you! Or, oh I hate you for even mentioning that obnoxious pile! :D That is my top number 1 HATED SONG OF ALL TIMES!! What kind of a mind dreamed up that one, I wonder?? It gives me brain seizures!
It could be worse, though, I seem to have mercifully forgotten the lyrics to Jam Up and Jelly Tight.
I'll happily join you in your merciful bout of amnesia!! :pals:

I wish I could put those lyrics to a tune, I'm coming up a blank. Considering that I have 4 cats, I guess that's a good thing!! :dork:
