"Bypassing the Legislature, Republican Gov. Rick Perry signed an order Friday making Texas the first state to require that school girls get vaccinated against the sexually transmitted virus that causes cervical cancer."

Since when was it possible to bypass the legislature? Is this a democracy with a balance of power or a dictatorship. Apparently he signed an executive order to avoid contention from rational people who want to maintain their rights of privacy, autonomy and parental authority, and some irrational people who are concerned that providing an inoculation would encourage unprotected sex. Mind you, even the irrational people have a right to be protected from power-mad politicians.

The vaccine, Gardasil, is made by Merck. Merck is pushing for legislation in many other states. They also contributed to Rick Perry's campaign. How surprising! Perry's ex-chief of staff is one of Merck's Washington lobbyists.

The regimen requires 3 doses at a cost of $360. Guess who pays for it?

Very little exposure on the news. Seems that Anna Nicole is much more important.
