Hi there Jade! I welcomed you in another thread, but what the heck, Welcome! again!
It's great to have a Londoner here! The UK is my second home, and if my dreams come true, it just might end up being my main home someday. I'm still working on clearing that with my husband, Franklin! He's California Dreaming, we lived there for a long time, and we do both miss it too!
So, dare I ask the most controversial question that is burning in my mind? Are you Easties or Corrie? :jumpers:
Maybe that's too much of an "in joke" for you, so I'll explain. We have been watching Eastenders since the beginning, and sad and embarrassing as it is to say, we're fanatically hooked. We've never yet met a Brit who admitted to watching Easties, or who didn't mock us for our dirty little secret, but somehow they all know the story line! :dork:
Anyway, due to the lengths we've had to go to to get Easties episodes now that they don't air here in the States anymore, not in real time, anyway, I've learned that most people are either "Easties" or "Corries".
I never saw Coronation Street, and I refuse to even think about it, as who needs yet another time wasting, socially challenging obsession? :D
So, fess up, please!!!

Haha - yeah, Eastenders, Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Hollyoaks - the lot. Actually, would you believe - I don't watch any of them! How very cool that you love it from all the way over there! Actually - pretty much all of the television dramas I watch are American imports, so, yknow..."go figure". Whatever that means.
I do love British comedy though. I just think that our dramas and soaps are TERRIBLE!

Well, they are TERRIBLE! Isn't that the way with addictive substances? I watched this past weeks Easties episodes, and I was literally in pain at the stupidity of it all. But that will never stop me, I live for those less and less frequent great moments that got us all hooked in the first place, now 20 odd years ago!
A lot of my Brit friends watch US TV. Go figure is right, because we rarely watch them. I scour the channels for Brit dramas, mysteries and crime shows, yet I don't believe I've ever watched a full episode of Law and Order, or any of the other US crime shows that I can't even name!
There is something odd about that, I think it must be the change of scenery. I love the gorgeous little English villages where all these terrible murders take place, and of course, all the shots of London where the mysterious crimes never end!!
I think we like each other's accents too, and I'm beginning to notice that we're adopting each other's phrases. Suddenly I'm hearing Yanks say things like "spot on" and I'm noticing that young Brits are adopting some Americanisms.
I do wish the BBC would sort out that licensing mess so we could have easier access to programming from the UK. It seems so dumb, because clearly there is a huge audience outside of the UK who would gladly pay for programming, and take some, if not all of the burden off of the UK taxpayers.
Wouldn't you love it if your telly time were funded by millions of foreigners plagued by Dirty Den obsession? :D And don't lie, I know you know who Dirty Den is!! :jumpers:

I wish I could say that, truly, hand-on-my-heart, I didn't. But I doooo! I know about Dirty Den and how shocked everyone was when he came back.
I also do know the ol' cliffhanger of, "YOU'RE NOT MY MOTHER!" / "YES I AM!"
*gasp*
Oh man. But that's about as far as my Eastenders knowledge goes - I promise!
Yeah, well, I just love how slick the US tv shows are - they are on the scale of films and I think that's great. The writing is often better, so is the acting talent.
But I do love British TV really - and I love being a Londoner. I love jumping on the tube (when it comes) and wandering about London with my friends. When I was in America last summer, it made me smile so much to see some of the BBC news get shown on one of your channels over there. It just made me really happy!
Oh definitely! British and American TV should get some sort of deal going. Then maybe I'll get the new season of ER sooner! :jump:
