View Full Version : List your symptoms!

I keep hearing from people who have suffered from unprecedented illness this winter, and the list of strange symptoms is getting too hard to ignore.
We don't have to get too graphic, but it would be interesting to compare notes.
So far I know of two people who have suffered cracked ribs from coughing so much.
LightHeart and I have both had eye symptoms. My eyes have been burning and feeling like I have tiny bits of glass in them.
More odd shared symptoms:
Fog headedness
digestive distress
hot lips
itchy skin, but only on specific body parts
curly hair going straight
extreme and unusual grumpyness
insomnia or changes in sleeping patterns
Has anyone experienced these or had others?
Maybe we're documenting a new disease here, who knows?

See what I mean? These symptoms are manifesting from people all over the country! It's wierd if nothing else!
If it's any consolation, LH, I was diagnosed as borderline diabetic as a teenager. It was scary, because diabetes is the curse of my paternal lineage, but I won't tell you how many years later, my blood sugar is still good. Which is not an attempt to mitigate your concerns, because at our age a diagnosis like this is certainly a serious concern.
I've probably mentioned it before, but I'm a huge fan of Barry Sears' work. This is a bit of a dry read, but maybe it will provide some insights:
http://www.cbn.com/health/NaturalHealth/drsears_type2diabetes.asp (http://www.cbn.com/health/NaturalHealth/drsears_type2diabetes.asp)
Barry can be a bit academic in his writing style, but I know scores of people who have followed his Zone diet, and the benefits I've experienced myself and seen in others are truly beyond spectacular. I'm a believer! :worthy:

As Nico and IA already know I was dragged down for over a week. What I thought may be a cold never came full force but I had a nose that wouldn't stop running, burning eyes, a sore throat "wannabe". My concentration level was awful. I would be in the kitchen think of something go and walk to the computer and then sit and wonder what I was doing. I would get back to work after my kiddos were settled at about 7:30pm and be falling asleep by 8:30pm and end up totally frustrated. I am having trouble even now staying asleep for some odd reason.
I would get up in the morning full of ideas and halfway through the day would forget half of them. I was actually getting scared!
Now the fog seems to have cleared and I've had a good couple of days.

I'm glad you are starting to feel better Debby, Hubby (did I tell you I love that man?) already called in sick for me tomorrow. And I never call in sick, but the pain in my left eye is more than I can bear. Maybe tomorrow I will start to feel better.

So what is this crazy eye thing? I'm not suffering from it the same as you, LH, but it is quite annoying, and has caused me to have to lie down and close my eyes for awhile a few times, just to get things back to normal.
Do you have any idea what the cause is? Whatever it is, I hope it leaves you soon! Sorry to hear that you're in pain! :nurse:

I'm thinking it had to do with my sinuses, every time I took a step or coughed it was like a stabbing pain right through the left eyeball.
Now last week I had such a bad stomach pain that caused my stomach to swell up, next thing I know I was breaking out in a cold sweat and feeling like I was going to pass out. The Dr. did give me some pills for what he called "stomach spasms.

That sounds pretty much like what we've been experiencing too, LH. It must be some strain of a stomach flu.
I'm being cautious about saying that I'm over it. Everytime I think I am I have a revisit of some symptom or another!
Whatever it is, it really stinks!
It's great that you're feeling better! Must have been Debby's Get Well icon!! That's my evaluation, and I'm sticking to it!

Okay, I've got it again! I ate lunch today got really tired went and took a break on the couch and fell asleep for about ten minutes. I got up to get the phone and my nose starts, my head clogs up and thinking went back down the tubes. I now look like rudolph again. Eyes are burning and I am going to rip my nose off my face soon!

Yes, I am on the laptop. The kids don't use this one but I do have my coffee near it and water. I don't have coffee near it now but I meant in the morning.

Oh Debby, this has been a bad season for the crud. I had a woman come into my office today to pay off a bill, she said the reason she was late is because she JUST got out of the hospital due to Pneumonia, and as she is hacking all up in my office I was getting PO'd, heck I don't want to be sick again.
I feel for you friend. :nurse:

I am feeling much better this morning thanks Lighheart! I can actually breath again. I jumped in the shower and think my nose is totally fried from blowing it so much! At least I can function like a normal human today. And I have discovered that I think all children can figure out when Mom is sick...argh...I think someone stole my kids yesterday and replaced them with the lets fight and argue and yell cause Mom looks like she has been hit by a truck! I know they have a sixth sense, I'm convinced now!

Helpful Hints! In this house we use all these due to a high risk child.
For those who must be outside in the cold, breathe through the nose to prevent the cool air from getting to the lungs.
Drink large amounts of fluids -- this can noticeably thin the mucus and make the mucociliary clearance more effective.
Wash one's hands (http://www.drgreene.com/21_877.html) frequently, which will reduce the number of organisms available to enter the mouth and nose.
If appropriate, decrease contact with sick children and adults to decrease exposure to respiratory organisms.
NEVER open a public restroom door without a paper towel. And turn off the water with a paper towel as well.
Going to your Dr's apt. early is NOT the best thing. Please keep in mind you are sitting with sick people.
Invest in a hand sanitizer. In a pinch it works especially if you cannot wash your hands. In our house we use this after washing hands. This is good when the kids come in from school.
Wipe down shopping carts with alcohol swabs when placing your child in especially the handle. Or buy a seat that slides over the seat and handle but wash it often as this will harbor germs too.
If you use a dishwasher put it through the dry cycle. If you hand wash let dishes air dry. Using a towel spreads germs and bacteria.

Yes, that's a big one! In many states cloth towels or dish cloths are not permitted in food prep areas. Use paper towels, and rememer that the cost of washing and drying cloth after EVERY use, which is a MUST, is no less expensive or ecologically damaging than the use of paper towels.
Also, one tablespoon of bleach is enough to disinfect an entire kitchen! Putting a few drops in the dishwater is a great idea, especially if you use cloth dishclothes. Make sure they are disinfected before wiping down counters and appliances!
I also read recently that the fingernails are a favorite place for bacteria to breed, so don't forget to get that soap and hand sanitizer under those nails! And scrub for 30 seconds, no less!
This might all sound fanatical, but let's face it, we're under attack by all sorts of exotic bacterias and viruses, so we might as well fight back!
Live Clean or Die! :shin:
