I really hate when men I don't know call me sweetie of babe. For some reason that really grates on my nerves.
Anyone else have a pet peeve, or am I just touchy?

That grates on me, too... but not just from men though because I don't especially like when women call me "Hon" either. It just sounds out of place. :jump:

I don't like it when anyone - especially people younger than me - call me pet names like that. I was in the deli yesterday being served by a 17-18 year old girl and she called me "Hon." What ever happened to Ma'am? I'm obviously older than her and with 2 kids in tow. I had a doctor (male) a while back that called me "Sweetie." I changed doctors.
BTW - I don't expect people to call me Ma'am or anything, just not Hon.

I have a few pet peeves.
Having lived all over the country and traveled quite a bit, and worked in all kinds of different field, and having been an avid non-fiction reader for 30+ years, I hate it when people are ignorant.
Those that live in a sheltered cocoon, especially religioius zealots, annoy me.
Another thing I hate is bigotry, and people that hunt for sport.

My pet peeve is being treated as if I don't have a clue when I call to get information at a car parts place. I may not be an expert mechanic, but I'm not stupid either. It's so frustrating when men treat you like you're stupid, just because you're a woman. Heck, I bet most of the "staff" in car parts places don't know that much about cars. That's evident by how many times I've been sold the wrong part!

Oh, I so hate when men or women for that matter call me "Sweetie". Drives me nuts. Another one of my pet peeves would have to be when you are talking to someone and they roll their eyes or talk right over you.

Mine is people who don't admit they don't know something, but would rather try to make you look stupid for knowing something than just admit that they didn't know.

I had to smile reading this. Ya know, as much as I dislike "Hon" or "Sweetie" from stangers, "Ma'am" makes me feel so old that I'd PREFER Hon. :jump: I always want to say something like "Ugh, Ma'am is my mother!"

I was told that using "ma'am" was a sign of respect, not just reserved for your "elders." But, I still get a little confused when people call me that. I hesitate.:)
