My daughter, who is nine, has been complaining alot about hearing voices and seeing things.

The night before last, she came into my bedroom and asked if I had asked her what she was doing, and I said no. According to her, she was walking into the dining room to get some candy and a voice whispered "What are you doing?"

Then she turned around and walked through our living room, and the voice whispered "Nina!"

She has worked herself up into a frenzy lately, thinking she sees white things or black things that flash before her eyes.

The funny thing is: my husband was experiencing unusual things a few weeks ago. One night, after I and Nina had left for a Christmas program, my husband was getting ready to take a shower and heard people talking and laughing in the living room. He locked the door, in case somebody wasn't aware that he was in the shower.

When he finished, he came out and was surprised that nobody was in the house.

The night after that : he was getting ready for work and I was still in bed. He opened the door and said "What?" He thought I had been talking to him.

So, is my family going nuts or what?

Our house is 115 years old and we've lived here about 14 months. I've never experienced even a second of feeling uncomfortable here, but I did grow up in a house full of spirits, and heard whispering and heavy breathing quite often when I was a child.

You know, I think that sometimes old houses sort of "replay" things that have happened there in the past. Not that there's ghosts, but more that the emotions of the experience have sort of stuck around.

Sounds to me like your daughter and husband are both sensitive to things you can't see or feel. Tell them not to be scared, and to either learn to ignore it or work on getting better at it.

I have also heard that some people are just more sensitive to this kind of stuff. Especially more so in children. The only problem I would see is if your daughter starts to get scared. Then it might become hard for her to understand why this is happening.

That's something I genuniely believe in. Not ghosts so much as a permanent collective consciousness. I think some people are more attuned to that collective consciousness than others are.

I also believe in this theory.

She hasn't heard anything lately, but both of them did hear a knock at the same time about a month ago, when we were watching a movie at night.

A rapping sound - like someone was knocking on the door.

Wow!

I often wish that I had similar abilities. On the other hand, it would probably freak me out quite a bit.
