The “castle doctrine” is enshrined as a sacred right in English common law. It holds that, if you’re wrongfully threatened or attacked in your home or on your premises, you have already retreated to the wall and can stand your ground and meet force with force.

It's about time good citizens were allowed to defend themselves! I hope the bill passes.

My personal choice for home protection is a dog, and a shotgun as backup. Any intruder that hears the distinctive sound of a shotgun being racked will most likely turn around and quietly slither out of your home with no confrontation. While that may sound extreme to many people, a cop actually gave me that advice.

Hi Tersi,

I share your views on this subject also, and was throwing this subject out to make people aware of just what the Castle Doctrine says and does.

There has been way too much controversy on just what it is designed to do.

What it does is put the power back to the honest people that are being attacked or robbed.

Florida passed this, I am hoping I can see more of this across the board.

It also prohibits criminals and their families from suing victims for injuring or killing the criminals who have attacked them.

It is giving victims back their rights in my opinion.

I agree with you Rico. I wish California had a law like this. In my state if someone attacks you with a knife you can only use force equal to the threat, so if you happen to have a gun what are you supposed to do? Maybe you would be allowed to hit them with it. It's totally insane.

LOL, I understand your situation. It appears the law enables you to carry any weapon of choice, so in the event of an attack you will be able to follow the law and respond with the appropriate weapon :juggling:

Thats why we need all states to recognize the same constitutional rights we all have.

The second ammendment is the oldest civil right established.
