How are we all doing with the temptation of holiday goodies at this time of year? I'm doing well and we decided that we don't need to do nearly as much baking as other years, so that was a good start. :jump:

I've been doing so much baking lately it's sickening. For a while I had a habit of leaving the goodies out and we'd snack on them. Next thing we knew, they were gone. So now, as soon as I'm finished with the cookies or whatever, they go straight to the freezer. Out of sight, out of mind. (helps that our chest freezer isn't in the house)

That sounds like a very good idea. I've tried to freeze baked goods in the past but it didn't really work well for us. We just kept going to the freezer. :jump: It would surely help to have the freezer at another location!

I haven't really started my baking yet but i am planning to this weekend. What I really want is some good sausage balls...anybody got a good recipe?

The sausage balls my mom always makes is nothing but some bisquick, raw sausage and grated cheese mixed real well, rolled into balls and baked. They're not too bad.... even though I don't like sausage.

This is one I copied but never ended up trying, so I can't say whether it's good or not. I don't think 10 to 15 minutes sounds like long enough to have pork be totally finished, so keep that in mind. (I think when I do them, I'll use only 2 lb. of mild sausage, just a 4-cheese blend, and low-fat Bisquick).
Carol's Sausage Balls
1 lb. hot sausage *and* 1 lb. mild sausage
12 oz. sharp cheese *and* 12 oz. mellow cheese
4 cups Bisquick
Mix the baking mix with both sausages and both cheeses. Roll them into small balls and put onto a non-stick cookie sheet. Bake in a 400 degree oven for 10 to 15 minutes or until they are finished. Serve warm.

Yesterday, on Christmas day, my 9-year-old and me made a Gingerbread house, complete with sugary icing and gumdrops.
Someone has to eat it. We also made sugar cookies for Santa on Sunday - and believe it or not - most of them are gone!
I love rolled sugar cookies - with or without icing - and I think Santa does too!

I think that's why the jolly ol' elf has to recouperate for 364 days before having to go out for his job again... all those cookies to work off! :jump:
