LMAO at Factsuall!
Facts is trying to learn how to use the quote boxes. I suggested she ask a mod if we could use a thread with no traffic so we'd have time to delete so we didn't mess up an ongoing discussion...lol

Ok, Friends, this is one of those things that's so easy when you figure it out that you'll hit yourself on the head, but in the meantime it drives you nuts.
In your user CP panel you can select different options for how your posting windows show up. If you select Advanced, you get a window that's just like a word processor. If you hold your mouse over all the icons it will tell you what they all do. Most of them you'll probably recognize anyway, if you've used a word processor.
In the Advanced posting window, the bottom line, all the way to the right you'll see an icon that looks like a text balloon in a cartoon. If you want to quote text, all you have to do is highlight it by dragging your mouse over it, and then select that balloon and it will put the quote tags in for you.
If you want to do it the old fashioned way, you can put bracket quote bracket at the beginning and bracket /quote bracket at the end.
when I say bracket I mean [ and ]
If I provided an exact illustration you would see the blue window, not the example.
Hope that starts you on your adventure. You can also change fonts, size, and color in the Advanced window.
Again, go to your User CP you can access that from the top left of every page on this site, and play around.
We have lots and lots of other cool features coming, including different "skins" so you can choose from a menu and select your own look and feel for the site.
We're getting there! Now join in!! :)
Go ahead and ask questions, if you're still confused.

Why does this thread appear on 2 boards?
I guess because the Main Forum is the parent, and it shows what's posted in any of the child Forums.
I tried to get rid of Main Forum once, because it bugs me, but never did figure out if I could. It seems to want to stay with us forever!

I was just wondering since the Olympics is right on top of us and I am very interested in the figure skating competitions, is there a forum to discuss sports? I would be very interested to find out what anyone who follows figure skating thinks about the Michele Kwan travesty.

As a home owner, I'd have to suggest that "Home Owner's Rights and Responsibilities" might be a good sub-forum in the Civil Law area.
At least I'm not governed by an HOA, but I know many people are, and I know that the sharing of knowledge in that area could prove fruitful, in addition to drawing in guests.
Any opinions?

Hi InsanitysAngel,
Good idea. We're burdened with an HOA and it's quite a PITA (pain in the ***). Most developments here are controlled by these monstronsities and the builders write it into the contract for all future generations of homeowners in the community. The builders and HOA have all the legal rights and the homeowners very few.
Cheers, Franklin

Still trying to wake up here, so I hope this makes sense.
Exactly, and very few HOA participants can actually decipher the leagalese, much less fight the strong arm tactics. Sharing info and stories on how one has handled situations involving HOAs could be very interesting.

Ok, that should be interesting! I did once go searching for HOA discussions, and didn't come up with too much. It is an interesting and vital topic. I'll go open a thread now. Great suggestion.

For some time a group of posters at CTV have valiantly tried to discuss the Betty Broderick story from the point of view, "Yes, she admitted that she killed two people and is serving a 2nd degree murder sentence for it" AND could there have been a different outcome IF..." We would also like to discuss BB's parole issues.
I used the word "valiantly" because two retread posters have gotten the threads poofed at least 3 times. Their mantra is "Betty is an evil cold blooded murderer and anyone who wants to discuss this case in any way other than that, supports murder, is an admirer, is a disgruntled ex-wife with low self-esteem, yadda, yadda."
Should this request be granted I would like to invite several of these posters to this forum.

Well, that's certainly not very adult and open minded, is it?
Why would someone who has such a rock solid opinion even BE on a "discussion" board?

Sunny, we very much want to host thoughtful discussions on all sides of criminal cases here. We do not believe in poofing threads, and we won't do it. Posters can be assured that their hard work in posting their opinions, facts, information, reasonable speculations, anything that is thought out, no matter how controversial or even offensive to those with opposing opinions will be hosted here. It's the only way to have a fair discussion.
I know from my own experience that people from opposing points of view will scream and yell "offensive", "foul play", or whatever, irregardless of how well-researched or well-founded an opinion might be.
The only thing we won't host here are the usual insults, and attempts to deter or divert a discussion. The whole point of this site is to provide a place where controversies can be aired in a rational environment.
In order for everyone to have freedom of speech, we all have to learn to tolerate speech from others that we may not like to hear. We believe in the right of all citizens to voice our opinions, and engage in fair debate.
So, yes, please do invite your friends to have this discussion here. Those who disagree with your position are welcomed to, but personal insults, gratuitous postings, mindless comments, diversions, abuses, and strategies to control the topic are not, and will be deleted irregardless of which side of the argument they are in support of.

Thank you. This group is quite a mixed bag and we are certainly not some harmonious, in sync choir, in fact we have disagreed with each other on other boards, but we recognize that although our opinions vary, we don't personalize issues.
They will be glad to be welcomed to a board which does not tolerate endless unsupported "YOU" messages, rather than serious discussion. I will pm them at once with the good news.

The local news featured a story about the "loss" of over 240,000 newspaper subscribers' credit card information and information about 1,000 subscribers who pay by check. The information was passed out with the the newspaper deliveries and routing slips. YIKES.
This fits into several concerns that I think we all have, privacy and ID theft. How can we protect the former and prevent the latter?

Hi All,
This is a very scary situation for all of us. I did some research and found this site very educating.
http://www.privacyrights.org/identity.htm#victims
Given are ways to protect yourself through fact sheets. Also, there are actual stories from victims. One person had just recently moved and rented a Uhaul with his debit card. After ALL his money had been removed from his bank account and researching what had happened he realized the receipt from his rental included his WHOLE credit card number and his NEW address. Also, the proper authorities that this incident was reported to still have NOT called this person back. This is not the only story with this same ending. I think we ALL need to be very vigilant in how we handle our credit and debit cards.

That won't be happening. There are tons of gaming sites, and to be honest, those are exactly the kind of posters we really aren't interested in hosting here. No offense to anyone, but those forums don't tend to attract the most stimulating of discussions!

I agree with Nico on this one. There are plenty of other gaming boards
and communities out there. That's not really our target audience.
But everyone should certainly keep the suggestions coming!

Not a problem, I just saw there was a section on various TV shows and thought that gaming would be related enough, since it is another form of entertainment.

Instead of having five or six boards with a specific case (under the Criminal Justice section), make one or two more vague boards. Prehaps with sub-forums of a case in one of them. This makes the forum more organized, also, cases come and go, and having a board for each one gets complicated!

Yes, you're probably right, and no doubt as the board gets busier, we'll be re-thinking the set-up.
Right now the broadcasting set-up is the big issue, and from there we'll revisit the forums. Thanks for the observations, it helps a lot to have another perspective!

Truthfully, we should definitely be taken out back and shot for not setting up a music forum! Franklin, our Grandest of Poohbas is a musician, and a superb one at that, for crying out loud!
I'm leaving him to set up the music forum! Bad Franklin! What were you thinking?????? :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
Thank you zandyne, we are duly chastized for that one!! :worthy:
